In music, Rythm is a unit of measurement of time with the help of strokes and gaps.

So we will explore each concept with the help of our time measurement unit i.e. second & minute.

<h3>What is beat ?</h3>
When you say "One second", what do you understand? exactly that is the "One Beat"

When you say four beats, it means four seconds and the most important property of second is,  time between each second is exactly same. This same property is applied when we count multiple beats. Time between each beat is exactly same.

<h3>What is Tempo ( Laya ) ?</h3>
We saw that time between each beat is exactly same. Time between each beat defines Tempo ( Laya ).

If time between each beat is longer then it is slower Tempo ( Vilambit Laya )
If time between each beat is medium then it is medium Tempo ( Madhya Laya )
If time between each beat is small then it is fast Tempo ( Drut Laya )
If time between each beat is very small then it is very fast Tempo ( Ati Drut Laya )

Clock has fixed Tempo, but in music we can have many Tempo based on the time between each beat.

<h3>What is Avartan ?</h3>
Avartan means repetition
When group of beats is repeated many times then each repeatation is called as "Avartan", so it is clear that time between each Avartan is exactly same because time between each beat is same.

Avartan is a generic term & it can be applied to any repetitive action.

When 60 second are repeated it completes 1 minute & second hand again starts from 1, so each such ( 60 seconds ) repeatation is called as Avartaan

Below four beats are repeated three times so each repetation of four beats is called as Avartaan

<h3>What is Taal ?</h3>
Taal is expressed in beats, group of beats with fixed syllables of Tabla is called as Taal.
In indian classical music there are many Taals & they are identified by their name.

For example Taal Roopak, it is 7 beats Taal & its syllables are

Taal is a unit of time measurement with the help of beats & syllables which create melodic cycle
